Weight and Conception
A woman’s weight affects her ability to get pregnant. This is a weighty fact that can not be taken lightly.
Generally, obese women will have a harder time conceiving due to several factors. If they get lucky, a difficult pregnancy is likely to be ahead of them. Pre-eclampsia, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, miscarriage, and premature delivery are more likely to occur. Studies have also shown that infants born from obese mothers have higher mortality rate during the first month of life compared to those born from mothers with normal weight.
Underweight women may also have harder time getting pregnant mainly due to lack of the necessary nutrition. When the body is deprived, the hormone levels become chaotic which can prove unsuitable for pregnancy. If, by chance, an underweight woman gets pregnant, premature delivery, low birth weight, stillbirth, birth defects, and higher infant mortality is likely to result.
So, for women above and below their BMIs to get pregnant, it’s important to fix their weight first before attempting to conceive.
